I've worked in healthcare my entire adult life, and even some of my youth.  I am formally trained and educated as an athletic trainer, a wonderful job that I absolutely loved and made no money at (which is part of the reason I don’t do it anymore).
Along that journey I had an opportunity to work with several physicians and prominent people in the profession.  I have worked personally with physicians of NBA and NFL teams as well as all levels of healthcare professionals at the collegiate level.  I had the pleasure of working with athletes at all levels of competition from youth leagues to Olympic and professional athletes.  It was a kick!
As that career was winding down for me, I had also earned a couple of advanced degrees in leadership, another area that I enjoyed and knew had great potential and relevance.  I also involved myself deeply in the understanding of marketing.

One day many years ago while visiting with a good friend of mine, he suggested that I apply my experience to his profession, dentistry.  Because I respect him, I did. 
It didn’t take too long to discover something that you probably already know… You can’t change one thing in a practice without affecting every other thing.  A practice is a very intricate and interwoven system. 
I wanted to find out what it is that made that system work.  What was the central thing that dentistry was all about?  Not the clinical side of course, but the business side?
I discovered it. 
I studied it.  I conducted focus groups on it.  I did thousands of surveys on it.  Hard research on not only what made it up, but it's results.
I applied of what I had learned academically to confirm what I had come to understand as the central element of what makes and effective and successful dental practice.

You see, from my time as a little boy, I was enthralled by Disneyland.  As I grew and came to understand more about what makes organizations work (leadership by the way), I also learned how very closely aligned the Vision of Disney and the central purpose of dentistry are.

Because the doctors I consulted with personally and in their practices, not only were enjoying their lives more, they had a lot more money to enjoy life with.  They made millions from this.
I knew what I knew was good and important, but I needed to find someone to present the message better than I was. 
That cost me a lot of money and a few more years.  Others I hired to share this message saw what they understood to be the value, but they couldn’t get the right message with different result. 
So what did I do?  I did the only thing I knew to do.  DIG IN.
